History of The Queen's Hotel
For over 150 years the yellow brick façade and white washed trim of the Queens Hotel has been a fixture on Dunlop Street. A place where residents and out of town guests have gathered to meet, eat, relax and have a drink. “The Queens” survived the devastating fire that very nearly consumed downtown Barrie in 1875. It has also withstood the great depression and several recessions, world wars and even a prohibition on liquor sales from 1919 through 1927.
Today a broad cross section of patrons is served, from the lunch and dinner crowd to those seeking late night entertainment. All find a warm welcome, comfortable surroundings and a cool drink. Every community needs a heart and for all these many years, The Queens has helped to keep a beat in downtown Barrie.
